Android GO edition phones are meant for entry level smartphones and when I was asked to choose a entry level smartphone my main contenders were Nokia 1 and Redmi GO. Even though Nokia 1 was cheaper the Redmi GO had a 16 GB version for around 4500 INR (65 USD) and I went for a 16 GB version since in these days 16 GB internal memory is a basic minimum even for a entry level phone.
Specs wise it has a 5″ LCD 720p screen with a Snapdragon 425, 1 GB RAM, 16 GB memory, 8MP back camera, 5MP front camera, Dual SIM, Micro SD Card slot, 2G/3G/4G, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi for connectivity.
Initially setting up the phone with the Android 8.1 GO edition I felt it slow and the use of a launcher called “Mint Launcher” is not my cup of tea even though it looks like a standard vanilla android phone. There are some bloatware with some MI preloaded apps. Some apps were able to be uninstalled.
First and foremost this phone is for people who want a basic smartphone or looking for a first smartphone for a 5K budget and don’t intend on multi-tasking.The 3000 mAh battery seems good enough for 2 days with some calling, messaging and browsing.
The downer there seems to be Android Pie GO available for this phone till now and the launcher could have been more a lightweight pixel like launcher otherwise this is a good enough smartphone with a pretty good camera in good lighting conditions and a good beginner smartphone to GO with…
